How to quote modular kitchen work
The line items a modular kitchen BOQ actually breaks into, the units each one is measured in, and the running-foot rate that hides half the job.
The unit
Running foot (rft), per bank of units
Base, wall and loft units are three different runs at three different rates. A single rft figure covering all of them is the commonest reason two kitchen quotes cannot be compared.
What the BOQ breaks into

The specs that decide the rate
- Carcass material
- BWP ply, BWR ply and HDHMR differ in water resistance and in price. In a kitchen this is the line that decides how long it lasts.
- Shutter finish
- Laminate, acrylic, membrane and PU are four price bands. Naming only 'laminate' leaves the thickness open.
- Hardware brand and type
- Hinges and drawer channels — soft-close or not, and whose. Often a third of the price of a base run.
- Edge banding
- Thickness and whether it matches the laminate. The cheapest visible corner-cut.
One running-foot rate that quietly excludes the wall units
A kitchen quoted at a single rft rate reads as cheaper than one that lists base, wall and loft separately — until the client asks whether the wall units are in it. Quote the three runs as three lines even when the rate is the same, so the comparison is possible and the scope is not arguable later.
