What billing an interior project involves
An interior invoice is not one number sent once. It is a staged claim against work that is still happening, taxed line by line, paid by someone standing in a half-finished flat holding a phone.
- The invoice should come from the quotation
- An approved quotation converts into a GST invoice carrying the same lines and the same tax rates. Nothing is re-entered, so the figure billed is the figure the client agreed to.
- Interior work is paid in stages, not once
- Split an invoice into milestones — advance, on delivery, on completion — and track what has been paid against what is still outstanding, per project and across the studio.
- GST that survives the accountant
- Tax sits on each line at its own rate rather than being applied to a total, your GSTIN appears on the document, and there is a Tally export so your accountant is not retyping the month.

Getting paid is a design problem
Most late payments in this trade are not refusals — they are friction. An amount that has to be typed into a banking app, an account number read off a PDF, a client who is not sure which stage this invoice covers. Every one of those is a day added, and every one is fixable in the document rather than in a follow-up call.
Questions studios actually ask
Does it produce a GST-compliant invoice?
Yes. Each line carries its own GST rate rather than tax being added to the bottom, your GSTIN is printed on the document, and there is a Tally export so the figures reach your accountant without being retyped.
How does my client pay?
From the invoice link, on their phone. A UPI button opens their payment app with the amount and reference pre-filled, and a Razorpay payment link can be shown alongside it for anyone who would rather pay by card or netbanking. They do not need an account or an app from us.
Can I invoice in stages?
Yes — that is the normal case for interior work. An invoice can be split into payment milestones such as an advance, a payment on delivery and a balance on completion, with the outstanding amount tracked as each is settled.
Does the invoice come from the quotation automatically?
An approved quotation converts into an invoice with the same lines and tax rates. It matters more than it sounds: re-entering a priced BOQ by hand is where the billed figure quietly stops matching the agreed one.
Is there free invoicing software for interior designers?
